Tanzania Professionals Network (TPN) will present the first ever summit to bring together professionals to analyse their role in bringing solutions in our country’s development.

TPN is a voluntary, non-profit member-based organization seeking to enhance the role of professionals in transforming the Tanzanian society.

TPN’s major role is to influence decisions made at different levels of both public and private sector through analysis using existing research trends and popular interest.

TPN CONSIDERS itself a key stakeholder of Tanzania’s development, and  has since its inception been working towards mobilizing Tanzanian professionals to rally together in active participation in decision making, implementing and supporting good policies while ensuring that they also support non professional Tanzanians in economic and social development.

TPN has decided to organize the professionals’ summit to discuss the achievements and challenges of Tanzania since independence, and what role professionals have played in this long journey. The postmortem will guide plans for TPN going forward.

The Summit will bring together Professionals from different backgrounds, policy makers, politicians, and captains of industry to discuss their joint roles in critical and constructive discussions while providing solutions for moving the country forward.

The summit will aim to achieve the following objectives:

  • To provide an objective analysis of what role professionals have or should have played in the past 50 years
  • To provide an objective analysis of whether current policies and national frameworks will transform Tanzania into a middle income country, with a special focus on MKUKUTA and vision 2025
  • To provide an objective analysis of the country’s education system and whether it has the quality to transform the country
  • To discuss the issue of “ethics & professionalism”
  • To foster closer relationships with the Diaspora and

On the event day, the following activities shall be carried out;

Presentations from selected speakers/panellists, which will cover four key topics as follows:

1. Regional Integration: Equitable distribution of Resources and Opportunities in Education, Trade and Employment.

Proposed Speaker/Instigator Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi.

The Question that TPN is seeking answers from Tanzanians is” Do Tanzanians have what it takes to be competitive in the regional and International labour market?

There will be Panelists to discuss the subject matter and provide their own inputs before the floor opens up to the participants to discuss.

2. Managing Investment and land Issues. To What extent should Professionals influence policy in Land and Investment?

Proposed Instigator Mr. Yefred Myenzi The Executive  Director  of HakiArdhi.

Panelists will be drawn from stakeholders in the area in public, private multinational and CSO backgrounds:

3.   Professionalism and Ethics: A cost benefits analysis of compromising professionalism and ethics. Instigator Mr. Ali Mufuruki

Panelists: will be representative of private professional institutions, Government departments, Human rights organisation and a Citizen affected by corruption.

4.  What reforms do we need in our education system to be competitive in the global arena? Instigator: Rakesh Rajani.

Panelists are picked from Academia, Manufacturer,  service providers, Commercial banks, Private consulting firms etc.

These topics have been carefully chosen because Tanzania is now engrossed in a web of malcontent among a majority of the populace from dissatisfaction with the pace and level of development compared to countries in the region and in the rest of the world who began their journey at independence with the same level of development but have since moved so rapidly in their development they are middle income countries while Tanzania is still a least developed country while it has comparatively more and better resource endowments. The issue becomes where Tanzania went wrong and what can we do to remedy the situation. It is important to discuss policies and Practices on investment, education, regional integration and the whole issue of how these investment decisions are reached, how investment is used to develop Tanzania or otherwise and the whole discussion around professionalism and ethics that speak to how laws and regulations are abided to and how transparency and governance guide the economic activities overall and most importantly how the driving force of all strategies and policies is people’s development as a whole.

Discussion of these issues is expected to generate some statements to government as well as Tanzanian professionals and the public at large. Professionals will be asking themselves what have they been doing to ensure a sustainable development of our country and what could they have done better and what are their plans to be more active participants in the development of Tanzania 50 years ahead? Government will be expected to be shown how best to engage the brain power among its people while the community is going to see how professionals can be of benefit to society at large.

The Summit is expected to launch an Award that will annually recognise prominent individual professionals who have done something significant in society under a set of criteria to be developed by society.  This year the Award will be in recognition of the Father of the Nation the Late Mwl. Julius Kambarage Nyerere for His support in using His profession to mobilise for the independence of Tanzania and promotion of professional development.

We have requested H.E. Jakaya M. Kikwete, The President of the United Republic of Tanzania to be the guest of honour. We do hope that He will have the time to grace the occasion.

The total target number of participants is 500 people.

Date: Sunday 04th December 2011; Venue: Mlimani City, Time: 9am-7pm

Entrance Fee of T Shs 20,000 will be paid by Non Members and while for TPN Members it will be FREE.
